Al-Hayl Castle was an ancient structure lies down on the foot of Hajar Mountains. From the top of the castle, you can see the panoramic view of date farms in the wadi surrounded by mountains. This castle located very close to the Al-Hayl village was loaded with lot of history. The caretakers of this castle will explain about the history of the castle and the families who lived in this castle. The Al-Hayl Castle built in 1830 was once served as headquarters for the ruling family of Fujairah. This castle has living rooms, prayer halls and food storage areas. During 20th century, this castle was used as summer residence of ruling king of Fujairah. Al Sharqi the king of Fujairah stayed in this castle and enjoyed the scenic views of the mountains and palm groves in the wadi.
The Al-Hayl Castle on the hilltop was built of mud-brick and plaster. Wander around the castle you can see lot of rooms with wooden doors, some space with stone structures and narrow stairs will take you to the room on the top. These rooms of the castle have some ancient designs on the walls. From the top room, a hard climbing on the walls will take to the open space of the fort top. The fort top provides the panoramic view of the mountains and offer fresh air to breath. Numerous stone walled hutments found in this area are serving as shelters for locals in this area.
The Al-Hayl village is about 13 km southwest of Fujairah, which can be reached by cars.
