The Fujairah Museum is a precious gem for Emirati’s, which is eagerly involved in preserving the heritage and antiquities of Emirates of Fujairah. The antiquity present in the museum was found by years of archaeological excavations which were useful to find the ancestral history and inheritance. The Fujairah Museum was initially established as a small museum in 1969. It has some collections of pottery’s, coins, weapons and agricultural tools.
On November 30, 1991 Sheikh Hamed Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi issued an order to establish the Heritage and Antiquities Department of Emirates of Fujairah. Due to His order, the Fujairah Museum was renovated with the Department of Heritage and Antiquities. The expansion works were completed in 1998 with two vast halls for antiquities and three halls for heritage. This museum also includes a Laboratory and Archaeological excavations section.
The three halls of the heritage section display the traditional objects which were used by ancient Emirati’s. Some of the heritage objects related to local occupation such as agriculture, pottery, fishing, weaving and trade are displayed in the first section. The second heritage hall contains weapons, various costumes and utensils which were used by the ancient people of the region. An ancient spice shop and souq was displayed in the third heritage section. The Antiquities hall contains large number of artifacts which were found from archeological excavations conducted in different parts of the Emirates.
